SS-31 (elamipretide; also known as MTP-131 or Bendavia) is a synthetic mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide that selectively binds cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane. The literature characterises it as a mitochondria-directed agent studied for its interactions with cardiolipin, cristae stabilisation, and mitochondrial bioenergetics, with investigation concentrated in models of cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, metabolic, and muscle-related mitochondrial dysfunction.
